Biography

Hello, I am Sergeant First Class Retired Derrick Edwards, born and raised right here in Davidson County. I spent my younger years in Thomasville and my teenage years in Denton/Southmont areas. I am married (8 years) to my beautiful wife Tabitha, with 4 children, two daughters, 21 and 10 and two boys, 16 and 15. I love anything sports (Go Heels and Panthers) related and anything outdoors. I am also a diehard sports card collector.

I joined the Army in 2002 and attended Basic and Advanced training at Fort Jackson, SC. I have been stationed in South Korea, Fort Riley, KS where I deployed to Iraq, Lisbon, Portugal, Fort Gordon, GA, Recruiting Duty in Sanford, NC, Fort Wainwright, AK, and finished up in Fort Stewart, GA where I had two more deployments, Afghanistan and South Korea. I retired in October 2022 with a bit more than 20 years.

While in the Army I earned an Associate's degree in General Education from Barton County Community College and then my Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies. I am currently half way through my Masters in Environmental Management with a concentration in Fish and Wildlife Management (taking a long break). I recently attained a certificate in Gunsmithing from Sonoran Desert Institute.

This will be my first year teaching and with JROTC. I am eager and looking forward to the experience. Together with the Cadets, I plan to bring the CDHS JROTC Spartan Battalion to greater glory. Here's to a great 2025-26 school years. Go Spartans!!
