There will be a new, but familiar, face leading Central Davidson Girls Basketball from the sidelines this winter.On Wednesday,Central Davidson Athletic Director Ryan Ochier announced via a press release that coach Kyle Nanney had been promoted to head coach.
"Coach Nanney’s passion for this team, the student-athletes and the entire Spartan community is palpable. His leadership will ignite a new era of girls basketball at CDHS. With his experience, character, and vision, he’s exactly the kind of coach who will shape a successful and lasting program."
The longtime Central Davidson community member grew up surrounded by athletics and what it takes to run a successful program.
Nanney, who is entering his fifth year as a Social Studies teacher at Central Davidson Middle School, comes back to his alma mater where he roamed the halls as a Spartan student athlete, not many years ago. He has, most recently, served as the girl’s middle school coach and previously assisted the boy’s middle school team. Kyle is also involved as the current Head Football Coach for the Central Davidson Middle School Football team.
Nanney will be flanked by more Spartan Alum in Maria Clinger and Madison Beane. Clinger is the current Varsity Volleyball coach and teaches PE at the middle school. Beane assists in men's and women's soccer and teaches Math at the high school.
The Women's basketball season starts practice October 29 and their first game is scheduled at home November 21 vs county cross county rival, North Davidson.
